This documentary includes an interview with De Seta by Alessandro Rais, and conversations with the writer Vincenzo Consolo, film critics as Goffredo Fofi, Michele Mancini and Marco Maria Gazzano, the cinematographer Luciano Tovoli, the film directors Franco Maresco and Gianfranco Pannone, the geographer Eugenio Turri, and new interviews with the old farmers, miners and fishermen portrayed by De Seta in his early documentaries of the Fifties.

This work has been commissioned to us by Galeria Cartel (Granada, Spain) to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The work has been developed like a fantastic journey through the gallery's most important paintings.

Dissimilar video fragments of cities are united into one single stream of images. In the course of this process the images disintegrate, by the force of gravitation as it were, into separate parts to form layers, regroup and establish new formations. Logical architectural elements are transformed into nearly abstract structures. This is much like the effect of speed reading, the eye focuses only on the most important, seemingly disconnected elements. Accelerated navigation through public space as well as the associative scanning of striking details and landmarks linked with it, result in a non-linear perception of our environment.

This experimental animation tells a story about one day events which happen to one innocent family. There are five storylines, from four different characters' viewpoints. Stories are seemingly random yet vitally connected with the tale of a set of incidents in one day. The animation starts with the end of the story and then the viewer can find the clue like fitting the pieces of a puzzle. It adds layers and events to the intriguing story until the final moment, where everything is finally made clear. It reveals the dark side of human beings; crime, deceit, cruelty, negligence, love affair, cannibal and ghost.

The last master-piece of Carlo Scarpa, the famous venetian architect, is the brion grave: a big garden-space in which stands out suggestive concrete buildings. The film is a phisical and ideal journey through this universe, which blends oriental and classical echoes, reinterpreted by the great architect. The persons interviewed in the documentary are the artisan-artists who physically made these buildings with extreme refinement. Thousand of peoples from everywhere in the world every year visit this magical and extraordinary place.

In the year 1991, I, a son of Victor Linford, visited my father's friend and colleague-painter Johfra. Johfra (Johannes Franciscus van den Berg), born in 1919 in The Hague, died in 1998 in Le Moustier, France, can be seen as one of the founders of fantastic-realism. His meticulously crafted paintings represented his inner world. With my film I wanted to document the relation between the artist and his environment. The film is about the Dordogne, the watermill, Europe, the world, the art of painting and the universe. Everything is related.

"Houdoud al- Zaman" traces the journey of a young Lebanese American, Khalid who returns to his ancestors’ village in the South of Lebanon. Accompanied by his American girlfriend, Amy, they enter a world that is altogether familiar and foreign. His attempt to reclaim his parents’ culture is fraught with conflict as he struggles between his western upbringing, and his desire to belong to his people and culture. There, Khalid is faced with the challenge of connecting with his Lebanese family, and his growing attraction toward his cousin, Abir, whom he used to play with as a child. He balancing delicately between an American girlfriend, and an Arab childhood love, Khalid.

The intent is to re-create the scene of a movie whose narration -- suspended inside a no-start, no-end fragment -- feeds itself with documentary elements manipulated in the editing room. The dialogs were created using snippets of an interview with an insurance broker whose job is to document the damages in some areas of New Orleans, plus sentences generated by the Pzizz software. Pzizz is catered to deep relaxation and sleep through NLP [Neuro-Linguistic Programming] techniques.

Today the irreversible tendency, which is frequently called progress, leads to depriving human body and mind of their protective properties. Being deprived of its protective properties, man turns into a prototype of the future, a symbol of existence in vacuum, the existence, which until now used to be a privilege of embryos. We find ourselves clamped in emptiness, conserved in artificiality, like happy embryos that can sense but cannot perceive. Our bodies become homogeneous, being at the stage of tactile plasticity and mental flexibility. They are not able any more having any idea either of themselves or others.
