We live our lives hoping to improve ourselves, while possibly we are born to live through our imperfections. Our Identity defines itself at the time we express our weaknesses: eternal life is faultless and anonymous, the one on earth short, deceptive, superficial, but just because of this, fabulous. We live and die to reach heaven, to be born we get away from it Life meant as “Reality Show” of souls, as an opportunity to escape from eternal monotony. Close-up fixed on a little girl, floating soul awaiting for her own birth. During her screentest-monologue, the little girl will be conceived (and therefore shortlisted for the Reality Show) by faraway laughs.

A nocturnal tour around Mori Tower in Tokyo. The impressive constructions of the day dissolve in the lights of the night. A garden of glass and steel turns into a garden of lights and reflections. Trip to the “other side” of the lights. The visual structure allows the viewer to see images as if he was looking through a moving kaleidoscopical crystal glass.

Cyn quickly turns the tables on them and soon the night becomes a cat and mouse mind game. While this drama is unfolding a lone figure watches from a close circuit monitor. Who is Cynthia and what the hell is going on in this twisted tale?

In the Mexican Desert of Chihuahua Mennonites live as two centuries ago … until electricity arrives in their “perfect world”. Refusing technological progress, the orthodox begin an exodus to one of the world’s most isolated places, the Bolivian forest. The film tells the stories of four protagonists living in the two Mennonite colonies of El Sabinal and El Capulìn, the first rejects any modern technology, the latter accepting such innovations as electricity and cars. In balance between tradition and modernity, between past and future, the four protagonists are longing for their “perfect world”.

Co-director Robert Margolis stars as Robert, a New York actor who may or may not be himself in this intense and hilarious film about acting, aging and the dark side of ambition. Expertly blurring the line between fact and fiction, the film follows Margolis, recording in raw detail his every humiliation and small triumph as he searches for that elusive perfect role that will catapult his career to the next level. When he finally scores his dream role in a film directed by the legendary Peter Bogdanovich, we know that his life has reached a profound point of change.

Each movement by itself is meaningless, boring, cliched. But seen as one component of a larger artistic phenomenon, it becomes important, meaningful.

Keeping scrapbooks have been central to my practice as a filmmaker for the last ten years. These books are made from photographs, photocopied and found images, written fragments, quotes, letters, lists and my own fictitious notations. Secondhand daylight is the first in a series of videos that use my scrapbooks as a starting point for a moving image work. The video itself becomes a type of scrapbook as I interweave video footage I have collected over the years with images from the books. Secondhand daylight is an experimental narrative that explores place, memory and obsession.

The silent actors of a natural history museum turn into a fluid and semi abstract flow of shapes and patterns. The preserved beasts are brought to life by the camera movements to perform an ambient dreamlike dance. The sound track comes from a world beyond the museum doors. The looped sentimental sound of a Bollywood B-film star creates a link to the modern world where emotions and moments are preserved on to film and hard disks.
