Down in Chengjiang County in central Yunnan Province, lies the sleepy village of Xiaotun. Here they perform their own unique masked opera, eulogizing the deeds of Guan Suo, a legendary hero of the Three Kingdoms Period. The local people call it "Playing Guan Suo" and the opera itself later came to be known as the "Guan Suo Opera". The people have carried on the Opera's tradition for over two hundred years since the Qing Dynasty. The fate of this opera has risen and fallen with China's turbulent political tides for the past fifty years. The Opera was banned during the Cultural revolution; the script was burned and the masks were put away. Permission was once again granted to the village's players in 1980.

The film/video tells the story of the human desire to be as close to truth as possible. The basic part was filmed at the Rila Monastery, the spiritual center of Bulgaria.

The Twinning 23 narrative began with the notion of Maithuna, the Tantric sexual ritual in which the participants view each other as Shiva and Shakti. The film follows the travels of the characters: Pig, Sheep, Yana and TJ as they explore and attempt to merge with each other, their selves and their surroundings.

My starting point is 30 letters written by Anna-Helèn to her big sister Clary in Rickarum. Anna-Helèn was a farmer's daughter from Bjärehalvön, who as a 19 year old got the chance to come along with one of the families visiting over the summer, the one of opera singer Stiebel, to "practise" in a city household in Stockholm. She was supposed to be like a member of the family. She became a maid. There is a flow of descriptions in the letters of everything she sees and is amazed by in this unknown environment - what she does, all the new food she cooks, the kitchen equipment she uses, and above everything - what she feels.

This is a story about a Mother and her Daughter. The Daughter has always looked up to to her Mother: a famed Cantonese opera "belle" performer. Many a performance, the young Daughter would look on backstage in awe, as she watched her Mother in a dazzling display of confidence on stage through her craft. The Daughter's greatest hope is that she will be well-received and liked by her Mother, both in life and on stage. On the other hand, the Mother greatest wish is that her Daughter will excel her in success, and these high expectations pushes her Daughter to meet those standards: however the Mother is challenged when it comes to the expression of this tough love.

Vincenzo Tusa, the cheaf of cultural heritage of western Sicily in the sixties, had the dream to save the archaeological site of ancient Selinunte, a Greek city of the 7th century b.C., from property speculation: finally he reached his goal. From 1985 the archaelogical area was closed and watched. He also assumed the "tombaroli" (grave robbers), inhabitants of the place, to work to the official diggings and to avoid that they continued to steal. He prevented moreover to the Mafia to construct hotels to the templi close. After a long time he come back to the site to see the members of his staff.

International adoption of South Korean children started after the Korean War which lasted from 1950 to 1953. Since the end of the war, over 150.000 children have been officially adopted from Korea to the Western world. The unofficial number is not recorded, but estimated by 50.000. Her Korean Name calls “Yungmin”, she was born in 1977 South Korea, adopted to Germany as a 9-month-old-baby and grew up in Osnabrueck, Germany. She worked as a music video and commercial film director. Currently, she lives and works as a writer in Berlin. The documentary Film is about the first visit of Miriam Stein in Korea, and other adoptee and orphan who grew up in Germany.

On the 16th of March 1988 Saddam Hussein’s genocide against the Kurds targeted the Kurdish town of Halabja. Chemical weapons were employed, including, it is believed, mustard gas, nerve gas, and cyanide. This film documents the experiences of some of the survivors, as they struggle to cope with the emotional and physical scars left by the attack, and try to rebuild their lives in a new country.

Abstractly, a free field is a field which has a unique solution to any given initial data. Mathematically, it is described by linear partial differential equations – an approximated solution. Acoustically, an anechoic space simulates a free field – a representation of a theoretical infinite space in which there is no sound waves reflections. Visually, the free field consists of theoretical infinite pixels space where a 3D panorama is transformed into 2D plot to form a geometrically distorted pixel space.

The fifth part of a piece started in 1996 on the Isle of Sylt in northern Germany. "Sönemböör" takes its title form a bit of coastline where sand is remove to construct houses on the island. But there is a paradox in that the more that is built, the more the island shrinks, and the less space there is for construction. Through a succesion of fixed and trembling shots Samuel Bester evokes the fragility of the landscape and the feelings one might have with a place which is clearly disappearing.
